You’re engaged. Perhaps you’ve already told everyone, or perhaps you’re keeping the news between the two of you for a little longer. There is excitement, a ring you keep looking at, and, sooner or later, the question: where do we begin?

Before opening spreadsheets or booking appointments, give yourselves time to enjoy this moment. There will be plenty of decisions ahead. You don’t have to make them all this week.

BEGIN WITH THE TWO OF YOU

Maybe with a glass of champagne, set aside an evening to talk about how you imagine your wedding to be. Picture yourselves there: what is the scene like? Are you dancing with confetti falling into your faces, welcoming guests into an elegant ballroom, or sharing dinner with your closest friends?

Talk about what you would each look forward to most. It might be the ceremony, the food, the music, or having everyone you love in one place. These conversations help you understand what deserves your attention when choices become more complicated.

DECIDE WHAT FEELS COMFORTABLE

Your budget gives those first ideas a practical foundation. But do not make a calculation too fast. With various providers, there are various options and all kinds of costs.

You don’t need exact figures for every detail yet. Start with an overall amount. It is helpful to identify your priorities, but leave some room for unexpected costs. If photography matters deeply to you, make space for it early. If a particular tradition means little to either of you, you can choose to leave it out or simply give it not much importance.

THINK ABOUT YOUR GUESTS AND SETTING TOGETHER

A first guest list will help you understand the size of the venue you need, and it will also have to align with your budget plan. A wedding for 200 people costs more than for just 50-100 people. It can be a rough draft, but the difference between forty guests and one hundred will shape many decisions.

Once you have an approximate number and a preferred season, begin exploring ideas for venues you like. Alongside how a place looks, consider how the day would unfold there. Where would guests arrive – is there a parking lot? What happens if it rains? Can older relatives move around comfortably? Is there some space for the ceremony, whether church or symbolic?

FIND PEOPLE YOU TRUST

With your venue and date confirmed, you can begin choosing the people who will bring the celebration together. Photographers, florists, caterers, and musicians each contribute to making your day special.

Look at their work, but also pay attention to your conversations. Do they listen? Are their answers clear? Do you feel comfortable asking questions? Good communication makes planning easier and helps you make decisions with confidence.

GIVE THE DAY ROOM TO BREATHE

As the wedding approaches, a thoughtful schedule helps everyone know where to be and when. Allow time for travel, congratulations, and the little pauses that are easy to overlook, especially for you two as a couple. You’ll want a moment together after the ceremony, a chance to eat, and time to speak with your guests.

A wedding planner can guide these preparations and coordinate the day itself, so you can enjoy the journey from the ‘yes’ to the ‘I do’.
